fonYou extends its Cloud Telephony offering to Android phones.
The company firmly bets on smartphones as the primary access device for Cloud Telephony services.

Barcelona, Jul 26, 2011 - fonYou, the global pioneer in Cloud Telephony Services for mobile operators, today announced the launch of its first smartphone application for Android phones. The application, first launched for customers of fonYou’s own virtual mobile operator in Spain, lets users download mobile numbers from the Android market and gives them direct access to fonYou’s comprehensive suite of cloud telephony services through their mobile phones.

Once the application is installed customers can immediately activate and use their new “fonYou number” from their existing mobile phone. The fonYou application creates a virtual phone line that allows users to have two numbers on the same mobile phone, doesn’t require an extra SIM card and works with any Spanish mobile operator.

fonYou’s virtual phone line comes with a range of innovative cloud-based features such as call filtering & blocking, cloud address book, real-time call register, visual voice mail or greeting personalization.

The Android application forms part of fonYou’s Cloud Telephony Services offering for mobile operators. fonYou has developed a proprietary technology platform, the OMT-9000, which enables mobile operators to offer Cloud Telephony Services such as the ones described above to their end customers and thereby counter the increasing competition from over-the-top players.

fonYou bets on smartphone applications as a decisive force for the fast adoption of Cloud Telephony Services since they provide end-customers with a unique combination of user-friendly service design and ubiquitous connectivity. Having quadrupled its share among new smartphones to roughly 40% in one year, it’s not hard to predict the dominant role that Android will play in the future.

The release of fonYou’s first Android application comes only days after Barcelona was named the first “Mobile World Capital” by the GSM Association, a title the city will hold from 2012 to 2018. As Mobile World Capital, Barcelona will not only continue to be the home of the mobile industry’s largest annual event, the Mobile World Congress, for another five years but will also host a range of programmes and activities related to the worldwide mobile industry. fonYou, which has been present in the last two editions of the Mobile World Congress, will further contribute to position Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain as global centres of mobile innovation.
